Lesson10 E-mail Addresses: To, CC, and BCC Module One Social?Etiquette?Writing I.Teaching Objectives In this section you will learn: 1.The meanings of To, Cc, and Bcc 2.How to address an e-mail correctly making sure each person receives it in the correct way II Teaching Tips 1.To- People listed in the To line are the main people the e-mail is written to. These are the people that should be addressed in the greeting of the email. If a response is needed these people will respond. 2.Cc or CC- (Carbon copy) - Any address listed in this line will receive a copy of this e-mail. This is a courtesy as they are not who the e-mail is written to. No response is needed. 3.Bcc or BCC- (Blind carbon copy) - This means that any address in this space cannot be seen by any other recipients of the email. They will not know that the Bcc people received the email. This includes other people in the Bcc. Do not use Bcc to trick people or get them in trouble. No response is needed. Schools and businesses often assign addresses to make sure that the e-mail addresses that are being used are appropriate. There is also often a lot of confusion about who to send e-mails to and how to use the To, Cc (CC), and Bcc (BCC). Making sure your own address is important and that the right person receives the e-mail in the correct fashion is also very important. Case 1:Questions for discussion: Who is the email to? _____________________________________ Who is the email from? ___________________________ Why does Luke use Cc to send the e-mail to his boss? __________________________________________________ Task2 Elicitation Case 1 Questions for discussion: 1.Bob Jones 2.Luke Smith 3.Because she is Luke’s boss and although not involved
