ABSTRACTWiththewidespreaduseofcomputers,smartappliancesandotherelectronicequipment,thetraditionalhuman-machineinteractionhasbeenunabletomeettheneedsofallsortsofuse.Developingaconvenientandnaturalhuman-machineinteractiontechnologyhasbecomeanewhotdirectionforresearchers.Ontheotherhand,thegesture-basedhuman-machineinteractiontechniqueswhichusethemanpowerasacontrolinputprovidesafastandcomfortableinteractionexperience,somoreandmorepeoplepayattentiontoitsacademicresearchandengineeringapplications.Therefore,thispaperpresentsahandwrittendigitrecognitionsystembasedonhandgesture.Theinputofthesystemismadeupofimagesequenceswhicharecapturedfroma2Dcamerawhensomeoneiswritingnumbersinfrontofit.Thesupporteddistanceisabout1to3m.Afterhanddetection,handtrackinganddigitrecognition,wecangettheresultsofhandwrittennumbers,andthenwecanusetheresulttocontroltheinteractiondevice.Intermsofcontent,thispaperhastwocoreparts.oneishanddetectionandtracking,theotheroneison-linehandwrittendigitrecognition.Wefirstintroducethealgorithmofthistwoparts,andthencombinethemtobuildupthehandwrittendigitrecognitionsystem.Inthepartofhanddetectionandtracking,weusetheHOGfeatureandSVMclassifiertodetecttheuprightpalm.Andinordertoensurethetimelinessandreliabilityofhanddetection,weonlydothedetectioninthemotionarea.Inthehandtracking,animprovedCamshiftalgorithmisused.wenolongercalculatetheprobabilitymapbyusingcolorhistogram,butbytheGaussianmodelswhicharecalculatedinthelastframeandthemotionarea,thenwecanusetheMeashiftalgorithmfortrackingintheprobabilitymap.Theexperimentshowsthatthemethodweusecanadapttoavarietyofcomplexenvironmentsandalsohaveagoodperformanceinsimilarcoloredbackground.Inthepartofhandwrittendigitrecognition,weuseasocalled8-directionfeaturesforfeatureextraction.Andforonenormalizedtrajectory,wecangetafeaturevectorwhichis512dimension.ThenweusetheLVQneuralnetworkfortraining.Andaftertraining,wecanget10classifierswhichcorrespondtothedigit0~9.Theexperimentshowsthatthedigitalrecognitionratecanreach90.07%.Keywords:Han
