Port Hedland Port Authority – Port Handbook In an effort to reduce the risk to ships crews, the following procedures apply to all routine transfers of personnel or goods by helicopter to or from ships while underway or at anchor. The Helicopter will not be used for oil/chemical tankers, which will, with other vessels whose upper deck configuration makes them unsuitable for helicopter operations, be boarded by Pilot Launch. The Helicopter used by the Port Hedland port Authority (PHPA) is a float equipped Bell 206B JetRanger with a maximum takeoff weight of 1451kg. It is fitted with a Marine Band VHF radio and monitors VHF Channel 12. The accompanying Helicopter Checklist will provide vital safety guidance information for the Port and the Helicopter during Marine Pilot transfers, the checklist will not be used as a tool to preclude the allocation of the Helicopter to any vessel.
