Therefore, we can gain a deep understanding about American literature in the 20th century through the study of Hemingway’s writing style. A Farewell to Arms is named as the best anti-war novel in the 20th century based on Hemingway’s real experience. This paper will take the book as an example to analyze his writing style from three aspects: the telegraphic language, the building of a tough guy image and the application of the iceberg principle. However, Hemingway has already decided to devote himself in literature. After graduation from high school, he works in a magazine, which benefits him a lot in the later writing career.
