AbstractAlong with the rapid development of Internet Multimedia technology, people are pressing hope to browsing web pages including more information and more vivid effects. Whether in application fields of electronic commerce and interactive game or in research fields of graphics and images, Web3D modeling plays an important role as an intuitive method on reflecting the external performance and the internal attributes of objects. To a Web3D virtual reality scene, the clarity of objects and the fluency of interaction are the two most important factors on affecting users’ experience. They are both constrained by the performance of the modeling algorithm. As a result, in the situation of limit bandwidth and hardware condition, it’s the top research target to bring out an efficient modeling algorithm on improving the users’ experience.First, analyses and compares the advantages and disadvantages of current common 3D modeling algorithms respectively, effectively combines GBMR (Graphics-Based Modeling and Rendering) method and IBMR (Images-Based Modeling and Rendering) method to build a web3D scene system. By adopting their advantages, and asking help for the way of external modeling, add models into the scene through GBMR method and utilize cylindrical projection and blanking from IBMR to build the scene. So the rendering load of engine is reduced and the efficiency of modeling is improved. Meanwhile, a optimized strategy of cylindrical projection and blanking is put forward, which saves and uses the last information of projection to bring down the number of models needed to be re-projected, reduce the complexity of algorithm, enhance the speed of interaction.Basing on the expansion to the front-end system of Virtual Experiment Platform, relevant test cases which includes two groups of scenes. for the Web3D modeling optimization algorithm based on cylindrical projection are designed. One group is for build-in models of engine, and the other is for outreach models. Then,
