The Arc Michigan OPERATIONAL POLICY POLICY SUBJECT: Chapter Development DATE: October 2004 POLICY STATEMENT: It is the policy of The Arc Michigan to assist local groups of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families and/or friends throughout the state of Michigan to become local chapters of The Arc, and to provide guidance through the organizational development process. It is also the policy of The Arc Michigan to identify underserved areas of the state to facilitate growth of new chapters. Furthermore, it is the policy of The Arc Michigan to offer financial assistance to newly formed chapters that meet the criteria of “Severe Financial Hardship” as described in The Arc Michigan Affiliation Agreement (Attachment 1). To meet this financial obligation, The Arc Michigan in conjunction with the Michigan Conference of Executives (MCE) will conduct a fundraiser at the State Conference each year. Working in collaboration with the Michigan Conference of Executives (MCE), The Arc Michigan and MCE will identify chapter development liaisons that will serve as the primary contacts for newly formed chapters. The Arc Michigan Executive Director or designee will identify the liaison from The Arc Michigan staff. MCE liaisons will be identified through a volunteer process and assigned by geographical location to interested groups and newly formed chapters requesting assistance. In addition, The Arc Michigan recognizes its responsibility to provide customer service to its local chapters and meet its ongoing goal of continuous quality improvement. Therefore, it is the policy of The Arc Michigan to provide overall chapter assistance to all local chapters to promote effective, viable affiliates (Attachment 2).
