When you’re comparing retention information, make sure you’re comparing like measures Different time periods covered ? e.g. my very first statistic: attrition at U of L 28% v.s. national rate of 40% -- U of L was based on 7 years to completion; national based on 5 or 6 years to completion (based on what info was available) – clearly, if you give students more time, more will finish!
