Giving grades is always the means, when teachers check the student’s homework, examinations and so on. Nowadays, many people think that giving students grades does more harm than good. I agree with them that schools should replace giving grades with written evaluations of the student’s strengths and weaknesses, which would benefit both students and parents, even the teachers.
First of all, written evaluations can make students learn about themselves clearer. They can know their strengths and weaknesses, when they check their homework or examination paper. Then, they can know their problems clearly and they can deal with their problems according to their competence. At the same time, they know how to nourish their interests based on their strengths.
Along with making students learn more about themselves, written evaluations can develop a student’s enthusiasm. Because of the written evaluations, they know their hardworking was recognized by the teachers; because of the teacher’s encouragement, they are more motive and active in their study. All in all, their enthusiasm on study will be developed by the teacher’s evaluations because they have motivations and they aspire to reorganization.
