Unit Seven A. Objectives of this unit Content The Art Collector: encouraging the students to learn about and value true love. Learning how to talk about expressions during an auction. Learning to buy and sell with an on online auction. Learning to surf the Internet to find information about an auction. Learning to do a project: How to search the Internet for relevant information about auction flow. Key language points 1. Nouns turned into adjectives with the suffix-ly. 2. Some used as a determiner. 3. How to avoid unnecessary shifts in writing. Vocabulary Basic requirements: 45 new words. Intermediate requirements: 6 new words. Advanced requirements: 3 new words. Comprehensive skills 1. Understanding the passage of about 900 words at the pre-intermediate level of difficulty. 2. Writing a 150-word summary of the passage. 3. Skills for surfing the Internet to collect information about online auctions. 4. Using teamwork to complete the project of making a plan for the community charity auction. Functions 1. Expressing one’s true love. 2. Preparing an auction. 3. Learning to make an auction flow. B. Procedures and Methods Eight teaching periods are needed to cover the present unit, among which four periods are for the module of Language Skills Development, three periods for the module of Language in Use and one mainly for the module of Enhancement of Language Abilities. I. Part 1 Language Skills Development 1. Period One and Period Two: Step One: Starter A. First, ask students to look at four pairs of pictures. Then ask them the question “Of the two objects, which one do you like better?” B. Listen to a news report and then complete the notes to the passage. This step shall take up 10-15 minutes. Step Two: New words and expressions Go over the new words and expressions in the text (refer to Student’s Book Pages 192-195) to prepare students for the text learning.
