In this long-running debate, Zhu Xis view of history is rooted in the li of heaven and the eternal value he was looking for presents as two directions：the theoretical one and the practical one. On the other hand,Cheng Liang’s view of history thought more highly of the dao of running history.In order to solve the practical problems in different historical situations,Chen Liang put forward the theory :Dao is the most public and runs adapting to time.. Chen Liang showed conscious historical consciousness in his thought. Thus Zhu Xi and Chen Liang made a sharp debate about it,showing the two directions of the development of Confucianism in the Southern Song Dynasty: Moral Idealism and Historical realism.
