ResearchontheCharacteristicsandExperiencesofUrbanPlanningofAridZonesinAmericaMajor:UrbanPlanningAndDesignMasterCandidate:XuYuqianInstructor:Prof.WangShushengAbstractThearidareaofworldisabout6.1billionhectares,accountingfor35%oftheworldtotallandarea.Morethan900millionhectaresisextremeariddesertregion,andnearly5.2billionisarid,semi-aridzonesanddrysemi-humidregions.Theseareashavebeenhumancommunity.Aridzone,havealotofproblems,includingthefragileecologicalenvironment,lackofwater,whichtimeandspacedistributionisimbalance,andsoilerosionproblems.Therefore,theresidentialenvironmentconstructionofaridregion,firstlyneedtosolvetheseproblems.WeliveinnorthwestofChina,whichbelongstothetypicalaridzones.Therearealsosomeproblemshere,whichrestrictnationaleconomicdevelopment,andevenismajorthreattohumanlife.Exploringthespecialplanningdesignmethodsappropriatetothenorthwestaridregions,inordertoguidingtheconstructionanddevelopmentofnorthwestregions,hasveryimportantpracticalsignificance.Thisthesis,basedonthetranslationandresearchofthebook-UrbanPlanningforAridZones:AmericanExperiencesandDirectionsandrelatedforeignliterature,establishesthatthemainobjectisstudingfortheAmericaaridareacityplanningcharacteristicsoftheseventyoreightyyearsoflastcentury,becauseafterthattime,relatedissuesofAmericaaridareacityplanninghavebeensolved,andlateralltheresearchturnedtoaridareaenergy.ThisthesismainlyfocusesontherelevantexperienceofurbanplanninginAmericanaridzones:makesclearthedistributionandcharacteristicofaridregionallovertheworld;collectesdifferenturbanconstructionandplanningresearchofdifferentaridzones;analyzesthesocialeconomicproblemsofAmeiricanaridregionsandAmericans’response;summarizesplanninganddesigncharacteristicsofaridregions;takesPhoenix,Arizonaastypicalcase,andresearchestheprocessofurbandevelopment.Throughtheexplorationfromthefouraspectsabove,thisthesissummarizesthereferenceandenlightenmentforourcountryfromtheAmeircanplanninganddesignexperience,whichhasveryimportanttheoreticalsignificancetothearidci
