The analysis of ambiguity from the perspective of oral translation techniques and methods

Ⅰ Acknowledgements At the completion of my thesis, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have contributed to this thesis. First of all, I am deeply indebted to my supervisor Mrs. Chang for her invaluable comments, enlightening advice and illuminating instructions in the whole writing process of my thesis. Without his help, the completion of this thesis would have been impossible. My sincere thanks should also go to all the teachers during my four-year undergraduate studies whose fantastic lectures have expanded my scope of knowledge and broadened my vision. Last but not the least, I would like to express my thanks to my parents and my friends for their love and support. 关键词:歧义;关联理论;口语翻译 Ⅱ ABSTRACT As a common language phenomenon, ambiguity is pervasive in all kinds of languages in the world; English is certainly not an exception. This thesis, based on Sperber Wilson’s Relevance Theory, focused on the analysis of ambiguity from the perspective of phonetics, lexics, syntactics and pragmatics and discussed the oral translation techniques and methods. The analysis was aimed to offer a deep understanding of verbal communication to translators and help them adopt appropriate translation method in their translation practice. Key Words: Ambiguity; Relevant Theory; Oral Translation English is the Inflecting Language from the Indo-European family based on the Latin writing in which t
