A united scheduling pattern of cascade hydro-power stations, which is composed by one or more hydro-power stations which has good regulation performance, is gradually formed, and the high dimensional problems of cascade hydro-power stations has not been satisfied by the scheduling theory which is suitable for a single station or “One-reservoir and multi-cascade”, Hydroelectric stations. Therefore, with cascade reservoirs as the study object, the study of cascade hydro-power stations scheduling theory and instance simulation analysis will be very important and universal significance. This paper mainly studied the long-term optimal scheduling model and its solving method of the cascade hydro-power stations, the station-interring economic operation of the cascade hydro-power stations, the short-term optimal scheduling model and its solving method of the cascade hydro-power stations, and the development of power generation software system for the cascade hydro-power stations etc. The main results of this paper are as follows: （1）The theory and method of the long-term generation optimization of cascade hydro-power stations are researched and analysis, and a kind of improved genetic algorithm is put forward, aimed at defects in the traditional genetic algorithm when is applied in the cascade hydro-power stations scheduling. The viable rate of the random population is difficult to be controlled; the excellent individual may be damaged in the genetic operation process and the premature problems etc., when the traditional genetic algorithm is used to solve the scheduling problems of cascade hydro-power stations.
