The function of the English Language and Literature to Student’s English Language Ability   【Abstract】Nowadays with the globalization developed, our country has a close relationship with other countries especially in economy, culture, and politics.English become very important when we communicate with other countries.Consequently, we should develop students’ English language ability.English language and literature has a great function to students’ English language ability.   【Key words】English; literature; language; ability   Foreword:My thesis focused on the argument that English language and literature has a great function to students’ English language ability.First, I will introduce the task based language teaching.Second, we should pay more attention to the communicative ability.Third, teachers should pay more attention to students.Forth, we should combine language with literature.English language and literature aims at making students familiar with some great writers and works in some English speaking countries, knowing some literary terms, literary parties and some practical skills like listening, speaking, reading, writing and so on.Only in this way, students’ language ability can be improved.   1.Task-based English teaching   Task-based English teaching do not focus on teaching but leaning.Teachers give students some problems and objectives to finish it.But students are left with some freedom in solving these problems and objectives.In the task-based lesson, the teachers do not need to determine what language will be used in advance because the class is based on the central task so the language used is depended on what happens when the students finish the task.In the task-based language teaching, students can control the language by themselves.Students should use all the language resources that they have learned before.   In the English class, teachers can give students some tasks to finish using the language rather than analyze and study the language
