(The coarseness of the HWD species and the SWD species needs to be measured before the HWD/SWD ratio can be determined.) The number of shives in a pulp sample and the number of shives per meter of fiber measured can be determined. In addition, shive analysis can be performed on shives that have been counted in the pulp sample. The analysis provides histograms for effective shive length, shive area, and degree of “branchiness”. Fiber width, is the newest measurement that has been added to the list of FQA measurements. The HiRes FQA can measure the width and length of the same fiber.
