Although the development of waterfront landscape is fairly late in China, but there have been a great number of waterfront space construction projects, and it still maintains a sound development momentum. Meanwhile, contradictions and weakness also exist objectively. The overall landscape image has a lot of shortcomings and has no features due to the copy production mode, lack of geographical culture, and the blind and ephemeral development. The everywhere identical waterfront space phenomenon is worthy of careful consideration. Taking the waterfront landscape of small cities in the Central Plain as base point and Luohe Shali River Scenic Area as an example, combining with the waterfront landscape design of neighboring small cities in the Central Plain, the paper tries to summarize the geographical characteristics of small cities in the Central Plain and the waterfront landscape design ideas and methods, and explores some missing points that exist objectively in the existing waterfront landscape design. Based on the current design of Luohe Sha Li River Scenic Area, the paper studies the handling methods of the main parts of waterfront landscape, as well as the application and expression of water loving design, eco-design and historical and cultural heritage in the landscape.
