1. Introduction
There are two ways in human communication:linguistic and non-linguistic/verbal and nonverbal communication. Generally speaking,the former is more important than the latter in the depth,width,and effect of communication. However, the latter is an important supplement to linguistic communication and it can express the objects,thoughts and feelings which the latter can’t.So nonverbal communication has special function of communication.F.Poyates thinks that human communication has basic triple structures including language,paralanguage and body language.Language studies traditionally have emphasized verbal and written language and ignored cultural teaching, especially non-linguistic communication.One study done in the United States showed that in the communication of attitudes,93 percent of the message was transmitted by the tone of voice and by facial expressions,whereas only 7 percent of speaker’s attitude was transmitted by words (LevineAdelman.1 982).Apparently we express our emotions and attitudes more nonverbally than verbally.This paper mainly discusses one of ways of nonverbal communication concerned with the body, i.e.,body language.
2.The definition and introduction for body language
In the ancient time, human use body language to express their simple feeling and need before the language is invented, later with the invention of language, it is predominant over communication gradually, but form then on body language is still an important assisted and complemental way of language.Nowadays people communicated with others by both language and body language.
Body language is also called the silent language (Edward Hall 1959)as well as non-linguistic communication.nonverbal communicationorfacial communication. With a long history, body language is the result of experiment and wisdom of human beings and also a symbol of civilization.With the help of all parts of the body, it can pass all kinds of information and express
