Ab Abstract PAGE PAGE IV ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the relationship between left atrial volume index and severe aortic stenosis. To compare the correlation between left atrial volume index and the degree of left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy and LV diastolic function. Methods: The present study comprised 120 aortic stenosis (AS) patients (aged 45-75 years old) refereed to our hospital echocardiography departments between March 2013 and February 2015. Degenerative calci?c AS was observed in 79 patients(65.8%), bicuspid aortic valve was the cause of AS in 32 patients (26.7%). and rheumatic aortic valve stenosis in the remaining 9 patients (7.5%). All patients accepted echocardiography examination and accessed synchronized ECG. Left ventricular systolic function of all the selected patients were normal, de?ned as LV ejection fraction(LVEF)≥50%. The selected patients met ACC/AHA/ASE guidelines for the severity of aortic stenosis. They were divided into two groups according to ACC/AHA/ASE guidelines: Group 1: comprised 60 patients with mild to moderate aortic stenosis, 29 males and 31 females, mean age (58.2 ± 6.51) years; Group 2: comprised 60 patients with Severe AS patients, 27 males and 33 females, mean age ± 7.69)years. The height, weight, blood pressure, body surface area (BSA) and body mass index(BMI) are measured. Observed the morphological structure of the heart, blood flow and ventricular wall motion in conventional echocardiography cardiac examination. Measured the size of the heart chambers and interventricular septum, left ventricular wall thickness (SWT, PWT),using equation calculated left ventricular mass index (LVMI); left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was measured using the Simpson’s method.
