道德经 The Word and the World 赵彦春 译 第一章 道可道，非常道。名可名，非常名。无名天地之始，有名万 物之母。故常无欲，以观其妙；常有欲，以观其所徼。此两 者同出而异名，同谓之玄，玄之又玄，众妙之门。 The Word that can be worded is not the Word per se ; the Name that can be named is not the Name proper. Nil is the name of the beginning of Heaven and Earth, and being, the name of the mother of all things. Therefore, without senses, one has access to subtlety, and with senses, one has access to demarcation. The two are of the same origin, the same but with different names. The profound of the profoundest is the entrance to all subtleties. 第二章 天下皆知美之为美，斯恶已；皆知善之为善，斯不善已。故 有无相生，难易相成，长短相较，高下相倾，音声相和，先 后相随。是以圣人处无为之事，行不言之教；万物作焉而不 辞，生而不有，为而不恃，功成而弗居。夫唯弗居，是以不 去。 All the world know beauty is beauty, because of ugliness; all know goodness is goodness, because of non-goodness; what is nil and what is being generate each other; what is difficult and what is easy beget each other; what is long and what is short contrast each other; what is high and what is low complement each other; what is sound and what is voice attune each other; what is front and what is rear follow each other. This is what is eternal. Therefore, the sages leave things as they are.
