Abstract Dunhuang marriage and funeral customs in the medieval period is an important component of Chinese marriage and funeral culture.And because of its historical background, geographical location, religion and lifestyle differences, and the marriage and funeral customs have both the same side of the Central Plains, also has its uniqueness.So it can further enrich the content of marriage and funeral culture in China, make up for historical records of the unknown and lack of.And by studying the Dunhuang marriage and funeral customs, and thus can give us the whole customs Tang and early Song dynasties as well as the Central Plains region understand the social history and culture.Scholars was caused by a great deal of interest, research results have achieved much. This paper is on the basis of dunhuang marriage and funeral data, information, emphasizing the Centennial history of investigation study on Dunhuang marriage and funeral customs, and Dunhuang marriage and funeral customs research achievement, research methods and characteristics of conducting a comprehensive review and summary of the system ,and finally put prospect on the study of Dunhuang marriage and funeral customs in the future. The thesis is divided into three parts: The first part, the dunhuang marriage and funeral cultural material are introduced, including dunhuang marriage poetry, dunhuang side book instrument (about marriage and funeral parts), dunhuang frescoes marriage and funeral chart and some other scattered re-cording material. The second part, phased study of Dunhuang marriage and funeral customs research, generally divided into three phases , on all stages of the macro-review of the in-depth study and detailed study on the outcome, and points out the basic characteristics of each stage research and preferences.
