Research on Media Services of Beijing Olympic Games Abstract: Using the method of literature research and investigation, this paper made a discussion on the media services of Modern Olympic Games and Beijing Olympic Games. Reviewing the history of Olympic Games, this paper divided the media services in Olympic Games into four stages: beginning, forming, perfecting and modern management. The concept of media services of Olympic Games is defined as the invisible activities and visible products which are provided to the global media in the organizing process of Olympic Games. From the point of organizational communication, the functions of media services department of Olympic Games are as follow: 1) to provide services to the media, 2) to coordinate the relationship between organization of Olympic Games and media, 3) to glorify the image of Olympic Games. The operation and management of media services of Olympic Games includes the design of service providing system, the plan and organization of service operation and the control on the factors of providing process, that involves quality, cost and time. Beijing Organizing Committee of Olympic Games has the mission of media services: to ensure fast, efficient and successful coverage on the Olympic Games, to communicate the concepts of “Green Olympic Games, High-tech Olympic Games and Peoples Olympic Games” , and to provide greater opportunities for the press to share the cultural tradition and social conditions of modern China. An overall plan for media operations and services includes the following basic ideas: moderation, comprehensiveness, efficiency, convenience and humanism. The media services system of Beijing Olympic Games will be established on the base of three aspects: 1)constructing the organizing framework; 2) acquiring and training the human resources; 3) planning the supporting facilities.
