PAGE l l Abstract By Kerouac, Allen Ginsbergs Beat writers represented in the mid-20th century period of reform in American history to their own way to the United States challenged the existing order. In life, they are indulgent, try their self-liberation from all bondage; in literature, they abandoned the heavy form of light content of the academic tradition under the tutelage of Romantic poets, free to express their emotions, personality and demand, the formation of a spontaneous writing” as the center of creation and the unique aesthetics. They explore the eclectic culture and literature for the United States contributed to the development .As a quite disputable literary group, the Beat Generation never gets a definition of status and contribution in American literary history. While disapproved by the mainstream critics, the Beat writers as Kerouac and Ginsberg were ironed by the youth counterculture. By choosing two Beats classic works, On the Road and Howl, these thesis tries to carry out a survey of the Beat Generation from different perspectives. The main target of this survey is to expose an understandable Beat Generation. The thesis is divided into three parts: The first part is a sketch of the relevant backgrounds that produce the Beat Generation. The second part is a brief introduction to the Beats classic works, namely On the Road and Howl and the relevant literary criticism. Then this paper will explore the theme of literary expression of the Beat Generation Through the novel On the Road” and the poem “Howl” text, this paper seeks to show the spiritual essence of the Beats. And under the historical background, its influence for Philosophy aesthetics and the younger generation at that time on the United States .The third part is a main analysis on their behavior in all areas of the United States, have their positive impacts.
