World English: A Blessing or a Curse？ Name:胡昌亮 胡江 钟杰 Summary: In the first section ,the author introduced that English is a dangerous thing for other languages.In the past years ,it has killed of many languages and there are other languages at risk now.A lot of exporters argued against English as a world language.For example Glanville Price ,he thinks that English has made many nation languages died out and constituting such a threat to the remaining Celtic languages long-term future.The other English academic Robert Phillipson, he said,English is linguicism.With the expansion of English,there are three circles which have made the English expanded to take in the entire planet. By and large,the author’s idea that English has become a global language is not its fault.There are many “world language” which like English that we often talk with admiration and appreciation about cultures associated with them.They never posed much of threat is probably that too close for us to be able to analyze and judge it.It’s easy to look for situatiion where people might call English a curse.In Australia the first Europeans often used Latin to describe and discuss the place.As the Europeans arriving,many of local languages have died out which replaced by pidgin English or general Australian English.From the historical development, if not English,there may be other languages as a world language,for example the Mongolian、Arabic、Spanish、and Russian ect. So we couldn’t blame for the extinction of Aboriginal language be laid specifically at the door of Englsih.English is just as a large languages being likely to influence smaller languages.
