The width and depth of their involvement in China’s financial market are always the focus of all the interests, not only the macro adjusters such as government and the central bank, but many a domestic micro financial bodies as well. After the first foreign bank opened in 1982, the number of foreign banks in China has reached 183 by the end of 2000, accounting for an asset size of $ 34.43 billion. The opening of Renminbi business to foreign bank, which can be regarded as a transitional change in China’s foreign bank open policy, indicates the historic beginning of the national treatment to foreign banks. No one can deny that their influence to China’s economy and financial side is increasing. Assessment to the economic effect given by foreign banks to the host country is being or has been introduced into financial supervisory authority’s strategic consideration. The purpose of this article is to discuss the economic effect and their prospects from both the macro side and
