Abstract The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a literary masterpiece, written in 1876 by the famous author Mark Twain. Mark Twain uses his humorous writing style to show us a living story of Tom Sawyer and his friends. The story happened during the 19th century ,Tom Sawyer is a mischievous young boy who lives in the small town on the Mississippi River called St.Petersburg with his Aunt Polly and his half-brother. In the novel, Mark Twain writes something about bourgeoisie’s vulgarity, conservatism and greed, taboos on bourgeois children’s education, and religion. And he also describes Tom and his friends’ pursuit of adventurous, romantic and happy life to express the beautiful hope to life and dream. That’s the reason why Tom Sawyer has become one of the most impressive images in world literature which enjoys lots of reputation and popularity. It also should be one of the most memorable time for Mark Twain himself, and we can dig out his values for kids and his past childhood. II. Introduction of the author: Mark Twain is the pen name of Samuel Clemens. He was one of the greatest American writers. He captured a peculiarly American humor. He represented a new American voice. Mark was born in Florida, Mississippi, in 1835, and grew up in nearby Hannibal, a small Mississippi River town. Mark Twain passed away on April 21, 1910, but has influence today.
