Kasper，G.，1983；Bialystok，1983；OMalley，J.M. Chamot，A.U.，1990)in second language acquisition carried out a lot of studies on communication strategies，which focused on the definition，description，categories，and explanation of communication strategies. 　　This paper explores such significant theories on communication strategies as definition and categories mainly by researchers from western countries，analyzes the communication difficulties of Chinese College English learners，and reviews the finished researches on communication strategies in China and how they are functioning on solving those communication difficulties. 　　 　　Ⅰ.The definition of communication strategies 　　 　　The definition of strategies given by Brown(2001：104)is thatstrategies are specific methods of approaching a problem or task，modes of operation for achieving a particular end planned designs for controlling and manipulating certain information.They are specificattacksthat we make on a given problem，which are general characteristics that make one individual distinct from another(Brown，2001：114). 　　Brown(2001：114)states that there are two types of strategy in the field of second language acquisition：learning strategies and communication strategies.He adds that the former is connected with input，that is，totaking in messages from others，and the latter refers to output，how we productively express meaning，how we deliver messag
