Methods Fifty patients were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups (25 cases each). The treatment group received double-needle acupuncture at antagonistic point 4 and antagonistic point 5 on the affected leg, twice daily and the control group, conventional acupuncture (at points Yanglingquan (GB34), Zusanli (ST36), Yinlingquan (SP9) and Taichong (LR3) on the affected leg). Results The total efficacy rate was 72% in the treatment group and 56% in the control group; there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P ＜0.05). Conclusion The effect of double-needle acupuncture is better than that of conventional acupuncture in treating post-stroke leg hypermyotonia. [Key words] Acupuncture; Stroke sequelae; Muscle hy
