中医经典的译法探讨(四)Studies on Translating the Classic Works in TCM （4） 葛根黄芩黄连汤证 Syndrome suitable for Decoction of Pueraria, Scutellaria and Coptis [原文]：太阳病，桂枝汤证，医反下之，利遂不止，脉促者，表未解也；喘而汗出者，葛根黄芩黄连汤主之。(34) CLAUSE 34: Syndrome of Cinnamon twig decoction of taiyang disease: A dose of purgative will cause continuous diarrhea. A cu-pulse will be proof of the nonsubsidence of the exterior syndrome. When asthma and perspiration are observed, decoction of Pueraria, Scutellaria and Coptis can be adopted as the remedy. SYNOPSIS: Invasion of large intestine by heat and its treatment DISCUSSION Clinical Manifestations: Diarrhea (fever, diarrhea with foul stools, burning sensation of anus)；Perspiration；Asthma；chills, floating pulse；Heat syndrome: thirst, restless; red tongue with yellow fur, and rapid pulse Pathogenesis: Heat obstructing the intestine and complicated exterior syndrome Principle of Treatment: Clearing heat to stop diarrhea, and releasing the exterior syndrome Prescription: Decoction of Pueraria, Scutellaria and Coptis Ingredients: Pueraria root, Scutellaria root, Coptis root, Prepared Licorice root Pueraria root, the main herb in the decoction, has the function of reducing heat and stop diarrhea, also releasing the exterior. Both Scutellaria and Coptis clear the interior heat. Once the interior heat is eliminated, the syndrome disappears. 旋复代赭汤证 Syndrome Suitable for Inula and Hematite Decoction [原文]：伤寒发汗，若吐若下，解后心下痞硬，噫气不除者，旋复代赭汤主之。(161) CLAUSE 161:After the adoption of a diaphoretic, emetic or a purgative to shanghan syndrome, the patient will have stuffiness and blocked sensation at epigastrium and continuous belching when exterior syndrome has already gone, Inula and Hematite decoction will be a remedy. NOTES Diaphoresis, emetic and purgative are the main remedies that can disperse the pathogenic factor from the body.
