Animals from the most ancient metazoan phylum porifera to bony fish are considered to possess TLR genes. In this paper, we collect the latest data about TLR and signaling pathway molecules from different marine phyla, the mechanisms of domain shuffling and polymorphism of TLR, which will be useful for exploring the origin of vertebrate TL
