Abstract Emulsified asphalt is a kind of pavement material with good performance. In this paper, it is analyzed the main influence factors of the process of production, transport, storage, and using condition, which affects the main properties of emulsified asphalt. Based on a large number of laboratory tests, it is developed for microwave heating of emulsified asphalt with long term storage for road construction. Modified emulsified asphalt was prepared through using water-epoxy resin emulsion as modifiers, two different types of emulsifiers and stabilizers were selected respectively. According to the results of orthogonal experimental design, the optimum contents of each part of modified emulsified asphalt were obtained. The results of test are as follows: The modification is after emulsifying, the water temperature is 60℃, asphalt temperature is 140℃, pH=2.5, the components mix of R 1 emulsifier is 3% (mass percent, same below), R2 emulsifier is 0.5% (External mixing), W1 stabilizing agent is 3%, W2 stabilizing agent is 0.3%, modifiers is 3% (accounting for 5% of the soap lye content )(External mixing), the quality of the prepared modified emulsified asphalt could obtained the requirements. It could be used as binding material for emulsified asphalt mixture. By comparing each performance in modified emulsified asphalt, it is better than common emulsified asphalt in any aspects of storage stability and absorbing of microwaves. Asphalt mixture is designed with the median of AC-13 graduation. Meanwhile, it makes the evaluation of the intensity index performance of the emulsified asphalt mixture.
