30 6 Vol.30 No.6 201312 Journal of Suzhou College of Education Dec.2013 Analysis of Suzhou Yizhuang in the Ming and Qing Dynasties ZHANG Kun (History Department, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, Suzhou 215009, China) Abstract Yizhuang (a clan charitable establishment), as an important way to unite the Chinese nation in a patriarchal society, made a great contribution to grassroot social stability and development in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. By setting Suzhou Yizhuang as an example, this paper will analyze Yizhuang from the aspects of its creation, development models and functions of relief, education and sacrifice. Then the paper studies its management mechanism from the aspects of administrative organization, punishment, fraud prevention, supervision, contingency plans for natural disasters, donation encouragement.
