1.regard …as / recognize …as / look on (upon) …as /think of… as / consider …as / treat …as ——〉 Sb. / Sth. be + ~ed … as
E.g:He’s regarded as the best dentist in town.
in / with regard to (concerning)
E.g:I’ll write to you in regard to this matter.
give / send my regards to sb.
E.g:Please give my warmest / kind regards to your parents.
2. attempt
(v). = try. (attempt is more formal) 后跟 to do sth.
E.g:We have attempted to reach / contact him by mail and by phone, but obviously he is not at home.
(n). make an attempt to do sth. 力图做某事
make no attempt to do sth. 不打算做某事
E.g:We finally made an attempt to get in touch with the rescue team.
3. gift
have a gift for (doing) sth.
E.g:Young Mozart had a gift for music and could compose on his own.
I have a gift for making my daily life interesting.
(adj.) gifted: be gifted in/at (doing) sth.
E.g:The hostess of that cafeteria was gifted at selling.
4. curiosity (n.)
have the curiosity to do sth.,feed/ satisfy one’s curiosity
E.g:The boy has the curiosity to know what is in the gift box.
We were burning with curiosity to learn what he had said.
curious (adj.): be curious about / to do sth.
E.g:He seemed awfully curious about Tom’s day-to-day routine.
I am curious to know how the strange matter will end.
5. reputation
have / acquire / establish one’s reputation (of…)
get / earn / gain / achieve / win / damage / destroy + reputation
E.g:Wesley has a high reputation as a very successful writer of science fiction.
What you are doing now will destroy your reputation.
6. let Sb. down = disappoint Sb.
E.g:I’m counting on you to support me; don’t let me down.
He has been let down so many times since he had his son take over.
7. join sb. in (doing) sth.
E.g:Will you join us in drinking / the discussion?
He joined his father in helping to make the business a success.
8. applause: (n.) a burst of ~
applaud: (v.) E.g:We all applauded (you for) your decision.
9. offer
