Unit 1 Phantom of the Opera Teacher: Jennifer Xu I. Teaching Objectives: Knowledge Objectives: Enable the students to understand a couple of words and phrases such as phantom, fall in love with sb., kidnap, put sb. in prison, pull off, take sb. to safety, burst in, and utilize them to make correct and meaningful sentences. Enable the students to have a general ides of the whole story and some important details. Ability Objectives: Enable the students to grasp the ability of summarizing. Enable the students to employ appositive clauses to make sentences. Enable the students to grasp the ability of taking notes of emphatic words while listening. Emotional Objectives: Provoke the students’ interest in reading more classics on their own. Infuse in them the value of compassion and humanity throughout the reading process. II. Language Focus and difficult points: How to get the concept: appositive clause across to the students in an effective way that leads to better understanding and accurate usage. How to enable them use key phrases: fall in love with sb., kidnap, put sb. in prison, pull off, and take sb. to safety, burst in. III. Teaching approach: Task-based Approach, Communicative Approach. IV. Teaching procedures: Stages Teacher’s activities and students’ activities Purpose Pre-reading Lead- in Play a famous tune from the Phantom of the Opera.
