Research on Human Capital and Energys Contribution to
Economic Growth of Chinas Eastern Coastal Provinces and
Cities
Abstract
Economists have always focused on the issues about economic growth. Healthy
economic growth of a country or region is the key symbol of its long-term
development. Human capital and energy source are boosters for economic growth and
playing important roles in modernization process. They are able to improve the level
of human capital, develop and utilize new energy to enable a country to take a place
in increasingly heated international competition.
China’s economic development has made remarkable achievements with average
annual growth rate above 8% since 1978. In 2010, The gross national product of
China exceeded that of Japan and became the second-largest economy. The research
results of scholars at home and abroad have proved that human capital and source of
energy are the crucial factors promoting the economic growth of a country or region.
The eastern coastal areas of China have geographical advantage, abundant material
and human resources. With the further development of Chinese reforming and
opening policy, the astonishing speed and quality of economic growth has attracted
close attention of the world. What kind of effect on earth has energy source and
human capital had in the economic growth of costal area? Based on Schultz and
Lucas’ theories of economic growth and the system resource constraints theories of
energy, this article qualitatively analyzed the relationship among human capital,
