The information of the past soil and w at er loss could be got ten f rom the sediment of riv er, lake or the bo tt om of slope according to the measure methods th at used i n Quat ernary . In som e deg ree, th at the number of pollen is decreasi ng o r v anished , t he susceptibili ty is increasing , the elements or com- pounds t ransferring dif ficulty accumulat e, or g ranularity is increasi ng i n the sedim ent, may sugg est th at the soil and w ater loss occurred in the past ti me. The arch aeological sit e of Hong sh an culture is abroad but sparse, and the deposit of culture layer is thi n, that m ay be caused by the past soil and w at er loss during that time in term s of pollen analy sis in the sedim ent of Dali ng river i n the north of Liaoning province.
