I.e. belongs a certain pixel in the image to a particle or to the background. Although it is quite obvious for a human, it is not a simple task to automate in a computer program. In order to separate the particles from the background the ISPV has a versatile tool which goes beyond the normally used threshold approach of many standard programs. Thresholding means that any pixel that has a level lower than a reference level means that it belongs to a particle otherwise it belongs to the background. However, in many images containing transparent or semi-transparent particles, it is not working. ISPV measurement system is a chain of several operations, as depicted in the diagram above. Geo Correction: The first step is to enhance the image contrast using an image stretch operation. Sometimes it might occur that the corners of the image are darker compared to the centre of the image. This is known as vignetting. It can occur due to the optical properties of
