The sustainable development of cities and the normal life of residents are seriously affected. It is imperative to vigorously develop urban public transport. Intelligent transportation system is combination of multiple technologies contained with modern control technology, positioning technology and wireless communication technology. Because of its construction the corporate management of public transport can be improved. Operating efficiency and service levels in public transportation system can be enhanced. It is a fundamental program to solve urban traffic problems. Intelligent on-vehicle terminal is the message source of the intelligent transportation system and the key part of the system. Based on study intelligent public transport at home and abroad and existing GPS, GPRS and other technologies, the design and development method of intelligent on-vehicle terminal based on ARM is proposed. It consists of the overall design of the terminal, the key technology research, software design, product realization, etc. In the overall design, the status of on-vehicle terminal in intelligent transportation systems, its overall structure and function of each module are introduced.
