Types of Journalism Straight news/spot news a straight news story is a timely report on an event, usually written within 24 hours after the event takes place; Most stories you read on the front page of a newspaper are straight news stories; They present what reporters see and hear, but not what they think, Objective; I. Types of Journalism Feature (news) Purpose of feature story is to interest and entertain and then to inform; It may not be timely like a straight news story; Give more personal information, subjective; Suspend lead is commonly used in a feature story; Articles or reports concentrating on some single interesting topic; Explain the causes and effects of a news event.
