The Exhibition Centre of Dunhuang Academy, Dunhuang Gansu 736200) Abstract: By a careful study to the illustration to Sūtra of Brahmas Question in Cave 454 Mogao Grottoes, this article put forward a conclusion that the illustration is based on commentaries on Sūtra of Brahmas Question by MonkWengui. This composition has reflected the unquestionable fact that text of Wenguis was popular in Dunhuang at one hand, and on the other hand, it clearly demonstrates the important information that commentaries to sūtra were served as references in execution either illustrations to sūtra or inscription for the painting. This fact had also revealed itself that Chinese Buddhist art were found more flavor of Chinese ideas and vulgarity in China.
