It seemed t at t e staining properties of grass fis mast cells were similar to mammalian mucosal mast cells in some aspects. Carnoys fluid and Alcian blue proved to be t e good fixative and excellent dye for grass fis mast cell, respectively , but neutral buffered formalin ( NBF) completely blocked t e staining of t e cells. It was noticed t at some ot er istoc emical met ods previously used to detect mast cells, or so called eosinop ilic granule cell ( EGC) in teleostean fis , failed to identify grass fis mast cells in present study. Under electron microscopy a great deal of c aracteristic cytoplasmic granules were observed in t e grassfis mast cells. T e granules contained amorp olous granular matrix but electron density of t e matrix from low to ig . Special substructureswere not observed in t e cytogranules.
