Abstract The urban space characteristic is the unique space performance forming in a city‟s historical developing process , the dynamic trajectory in the continuation of space and time, the material carrier of the city‟s history and culture .Today , Chinas urbanization is developing rapidly. Urban construction activities are in full swing. The urban construction way in Western city country is hipping ,which results cities „convergence .the cities ignore their Inherent urban space characteristics. Jinan is the second national famous historical and cultural city , whose urban space characteristic is Jinan‟s epitome of evolution. Jinan ancient city is the core of Jinan. ,which is the sign of traditional culture of Jinan area ,the most direct embodiment of Jinan development. So researching Jinan city‟s space characteristics, showing the feature space of the ancient city of Jinan ,analyzing their relationship between their internal elements ,putting forward some suggestions for their development are imperative. This paper clears that to research the space characteristic is to research its constituent elements on the base of the urban space characteristic theory. To the city ， we analyzes it from the macro level, the medium level and the micro level.
