To understand and master the economic status of a city is important to the citys economic construction and development. In this paper, starting from four aspects of urban economic development, we select 11 index to form the citys economic strength index system of evaluation. We use factor analysis to conduct a comprehensive analysis of economic power of 19 over sub-provincial cities, obtaining two factors: social capacity factor and the peoples living standards factor, which the former is the first principal factor , the latter for the second, third and four main factors. Using the variance explained power of the factor as the weight, establish the comprehensive evaluation standards of urban economic strength, rank the scores, and give the results analysis and policy recommendations. This article also uses the method of rapid cluster analysis to classify the citys economic strength, to verify and explain the classification results with the results of factor analysis. Finally, we use Wuhan as an example to describe the method
