ZHANG Cong, under this influence, met the call of the times, stood out among other scholars and became a master of ritual theory . His way of making research is examining Jing on the basis of ritual theory , citing past and proving today. He insisted that the name should conform to the fact, things should be distin- guished clearly and truth should be sought from the fact. His ritual theory thought that Li derived from the personal relationship an d it should not act against the rule of personal relationship . Li is the truth and a person should not distort the right and talk speciou sly . Li should not be constant, instead it ought to be changed with the time. People who study Li should adhere to the right and be honest, making themselves an example. To make a reform in politics and change the present ruling system, ZHANG Cong presented the view of amending the old law, which contributed to the reviving of early period of Jiaj ing Regime.
