DataStage Essentials Designer Module Server Edition Module Objectives Upon module completion, students will be able to: Customize the Designer’s layout and palette Create jobs and containers Create and use parameters within jobs Insert and link stages Use editing features for creating jobs and containers Set stage and job properties Load and save table definitions Save and compile jobs Run jobs from within the Designer Customizing the Layout The Standard Toolbar—Editing Buttons The Standard Toolbar—Job Control Buttons The Standard Toolbar—Display Buttons Logging into a DataStage server using the Designer requires the host name of the server—the fully qualified name if necessary—or the server’s IP address, and an operating system username and password. The user account must be a member of the group(s) that has been assigned Developer rights to the particular project. Once a connection has been made to a DataStage server, the logon credentials will be saved for future logins. The Host System drop-down menu will hold a list of all successful connection information, excluding the password. The DataStage Designer workspace can be customized to your personal liking, with multiple floating toolbars and a resizable design area (the “canvas”). The available toolbars include the Standard toolbar, and the Debug Bar (available only in Server jobs or Shared Containers). Available windows include the Palette, the Repository, and the Property Browser. The toolbars can be docked on the top and bottom edges of the Designer window, and, while the Standard toolbar can be docked on the edges of the screen, the Debug bar cannot. When the toolbars are undocked, they can be resized. All of the windows can be resized either when they are floating or while they are anchored to an edge.
