AbstractAppraisal Abstract Appraisal category is a very important category of linguistics．It reflected the cognition of people towards the world，reacting on activities in the mind of people．It is viewed as a result of the amalgamation of value concept systems beyond the language． The reference point of appraisal category is value scale．Varying from the natural category,appraisal category divided the object according with the objects and the influence of the object’S attribute on the person，弱well舔the accordance of the objects谢th the value scale of the people，instead of the object’S physical attributes． Therefore，the concept of appraisal category itself is multidimensional．It is impossible to discuss this problem just from one aspect．We need to study it from different aspects and apply、析m various methods to make the category tridimensional． This thesis is based on the semantic and pragmatic theory,combing the two concepts of them，SO that the studying object and conception can be united with each other．Based on analysis on semantic elements and characteristics，the appraisal category call be defined more visually．Furthermore the thesis discusses its semantic structure and components，including the hidden and the seeable components． Analyzing the semantic structure，we attempt to combine the appraisal category诵th the concepts such嬲the human world picture，appraisal scale and appraisal standard． At last we focus on the application of the appraisal category in the speech act theory． We will make a detailed analysis on the appraisal meaning in the dialogs and interpretations，which makes us much better to comprehend the appraisal category and reveal the essence of it．Therefore this paper involves not only the theory augments， but also it can provide the foreign language teaching and communication with strong theory evidence．Moreover,this thesis attempts to adopt the multidimensional method to to descript the category．This kind of method call be used aLs a reference for stu
