Abstract: T erahertzw ave is an electrom agnetic radiation area w ith sign i icant scienti ic value, but h as not been ully develop ed. Its applica
tion s p ossessw ide prospects in mi ag ing, m ed ical diagnosis, secur ity in sp ection, in orm ation comm un ica tion, astronomy and m ilitary research,
etc. The un ique character istics and th e app licab le areas o terah ertzw ave are genera lly introduced, and th e m ech an ism andm eth odo logy o gen
eration and detection o terahertz w ave are review ed. Th e develop ing trend o terah ertz techno logy is br ie ly discussed. It is sa id th at terahertz
w ave is on e o ten techno log ies in luenc ing hum an uture in 21 century, and itw illm ature gradua lly and b e app lied w ide ly in com ing decades.
