阅读教学呼唤改革! 阅读教学需要改革! 课程改革带来的《英语课程标准》对中小学阶段的英语阅读带来了新的阅读教学理念,提出了新的阅读教学要求! 几万字的阅读量显然无法在有限的课堂教学时间中实现,那么大量的课外阅读要求如何实现? 课外阅读更需要改革,课外阅读呼唤提高教师对学生课外阅读的指导、课内外阅读的互动、阅读效果与效率! * * Why reading in class isn’t enough? Too short texts to develop anything Not interesting enough /topics too universal Reading for language, not for content No choice Language / lexical fear * * Why extensive reading is necessary? Choice / learner autonomy Interests Motivation Gathering of information It allows the student the element of ‘choice’ in learning which allows them to manipulate what they learn and what cultural information they need. * * Extensive reading is a traditional and ‘realistic’ means by which we gather information about culture and how to behave/speak in a target language. Intensive provides the mechanics/ extensive the soul. * * Extensive reading will ALWAYS supply more input than a coursebook, even if not as well organised as one. Parents see progress Sense of achievement Much less language / lexical fear * * There are two more key points about extensive reading. First is that, as they are reading for pleasure they should be as unaware as possible that they are reading in a foreign language... SO THAT THEY ACQUIRE LANGUAGE ALMOST WITHOUT KNOWING IT. * * However, even better than this is seeing the joyful surprise on the face of a student when they discover that the book they so effortlessly read had THIRTY pages! * * 阅读能力和其他能力的关系 In 1985 in Singapore a similar study of 3000 six to nine year olds was carried out by Elley over three years and Krashen summarizes his results thus: * * 阅读能力和其他能力的关系 children in the experimental classes outperformed traditionally taught students on tests of reading comprehension, vocabulary, oral language, grammar, listening comprehension and writing. * * 阅读能力和其他能力的关系 After two years there were extensive tests and the experimental groups were “far superior in tests of reading comprehension, writing and grammar.” ——Singapore (Elley
