After analyzing the data, the conclusion can be made that differentiation did exist in Hangzhou in 2000 and 2010. Through further investigation, the point above was confirmed. During the past decade, transformation existed in not only the factors of social space differentiation, but also the structure and model of residential spaces. The main factors of social residential differentiation in 2000 include the population of foreign workers, the intellectual stratum, the retired and unemployed, and the peasant population. Based on the factors, the major city can be divided into seven districts, which are new residential area, urban village, development zone, white-collar concentrated residential area, floating population concentrated residential area, retired employees concentrated residential area and farmers concentrated residential area. The main factors of social space differentiation in 2010 include occupation status and levels of education, the migrant population, the retired and unemployed, and the peasant population.
