Topic:elephants
Teaching background
1. The textbook reviser begin to focus more on culture. They try to train students’ cultural awareness trough reading passages. This article which talks about one of Thailand’s symbols—elephants to catch students’ attention on culture.
2. Training reading skills is a gradual procedure. Students must learn step by step. So teacher must teach students reading strategy and make sure they can grasp the skill step by step. So the reading procedure are emphasized.
Teaching aims:
1. key words and phrases: save flag forget get lost place water
be in great danger cut down trees kill over be made of
2 .reading strategy(策略):1)How to choose the title; 2)How to find the topic
sentence.
3. complete the mind map; learn the structure of how to write an animal.
4. retell the story with the new words
5. write a proposal of saving animals, using the structure( importance, ability,
facts, figures, how to save)
Teaching emphasis:
Students need to grasp the key words and phrases, learn something about elephants and its culture in Thailand. Also, they need to know how to save endangered animals.
Teaching difficulties:
Students may feel difficult to discuss why different kinds of animals are in danger and what to do to save endangered animals.
