S uzhou H ig hway Construction Headquar ters, S uz hou 21 007, J iang su, Ch ina ) Abstract:Based on the experimental study on w ater contents, liquid limit, plastic limit, particle composition, mineral content, f ree expansive ratio and swel-l shrink total ratio of the filled soil in a firs-t class highw ay, this p-a per evaluates the property of the subgrade soil by using the plasticity chart and considering various indices. It is concluded that the filled soil is silt soil with high liquid limit and plastic limit, w hich has the low sw elling prope-r ty in natural state.According to the results of the compaction test and bearing ration test, it is discovered that the filled soil also has the sw elling property af ter being compressed, w hich may result in the crack of the subgrade with the change of the water contents.
